Privacy Policy for WordRoot
Welcome to WordRoot ("we," "our," or "the App"). WordRoot is a vocabulary learning application designed to help users build language mastery using spaced repetition and personal study cards.
We take your privacy seriously. This Privacy Policy outlines what information we collect, how your data is processed, how cloud synchronization operates, and how you can manage or permanently delete your account data.
1. Information We Collect
WordRoot processes minimal data necessary to deliver account synchronization and study progress tracking:
- Account Credentials: When registering or logging in (via email/password or Google Sign-In), we store your email address, display name, and securely hashed passwords (using industry-standard bcrypt).
- Vocabulary & Study Records: Your custom words, meanings, study schedules, card review timestamps, review counts, and FSRS spaced repetition parameters.
- Local App Settings: Theme preferences (Light/Dark mode) and notification time preferences.
2. Data Storage & Architecture
WordRoot is built with an offline-first architecture to safeguard performance and availability:
- Local Storage (SQLite): Your flashcards and daily study progress are stored locally on your mobile device in an isolated SQLite database. This allows full offline functionality.
- Cloud Synchronization (Backend API & PostgreSQL): When connected to the internet, local SQLite updates sync securely with our backend server over encrypted TLS / HTTPS connections.
- No Third-Party Data Sales: We do not sell, rent, monetize, or share your personal data or vocabulary cards with third-party advertisers or data brokers.
3. Device Permissions Used
WordRoot requests only essential Android/iOS permissions required for core features:

Notifications (
POST_NOTIFICATIONS): Used strictly to trigger daily review reminders at your selected notification time. -
Internet Access (
INTERNET): Used for secure cloud sync, account authentication, and password reset operations.
4. User Rights & Data Deletion (Google Play & GDPR Compliant)
You retain full control over your data. WordRoot provides two straightforward ways to delete your information:
In-App Instant Account & Cloud Deletion
You can delete your account directly inside the app at any time: Open Profile Tab → Log Out / Delete → Delete Account & All Data. This immediately wipes your account, vocabulary cards, and sync backups from our cloud servers and local storage.
Manual Deletion Request by Email:
Alternatively, you may request manual account deletion by emailing wordroot.app@gmail.com with the subject "Account Deletion Request" from your registered email address. All associated data will be removed within 14 days.
5. Children's Privacy
WordRoot is an educational vocabulary tool and is not directed at children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you become aware that a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us for prompt deletion.
